Exhibition
Exhibition:
Exhibition is a component of the Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements (PBGR) established by the Rhode Island Department of Education. It is specifically designed for every LHS student to demonstrate the necessary skills (Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Self-Directed Learning) for future success as defined by the Vision of the Graduate (VOG). During the Exhibition process, students create a Project Learning Goal centered around a student's personal interest or goal; they conduct research to create a plan of action to achieve their goal and to overcome any challenges they may face while implementing the plan; and, once the goal is achieved, they present their journey to a panel of judges in a formal presentation setting. A semester course is offered to help students meet this graduation requirement.
- For the last 2 years the combined pass rate has been 96%
- All Exhibition documents and material can be found in the students' Google Classroom
- Stuck on picking your topic? Working with your mentor on finalizing your end-product/solution? Click here for help!
- Students taking Exhibition will be required to select and work with a mentor for 7 hours during the course of completing their projects. Mentors MUST receive and submit a criminal background check (BCI) before they can work with a student. Failing to complete this component will nullify any hours submitted for approval. Lincoln residents may receive a free BCI report from the Lincoln Police Department. For residents of Lincoln, please see our notice in regards to acquiring this locally. For further information on the RI law requiring BCI checks for volunteers/mentors, please click here to learn more about Rhode Island General Laws 16-2-18.4

Exhibition
½ Credit Prerequisite: None
This is a one semester course designed to assist students in completing the exhibition component for graduation by proficiency. Exhibition is a formal presentation (orally and in writing) of a comprehensive research project centered on a student’s personal interest. The culminating event of exhibition will be an oral presentation of the students’ findings to a panel of judges made up of LHS faculty and community members. The judging panel will assess whether the oral presentation meets the standard of proficiency that LHS and the Rhode Island Department of Education required for successful graduation.
A student must complete an Exhibition Binder that meets standard, as determined by the Exhibition teacher, on all required components (Proposal, Research, Journals, Letters, Reflective Essay, Mentor Requirements, Practice Presentation) in order to present on the scheduled Exhibition Days. A student who does not meet the requirements (i.e. Exhibition Binder that meets standard) to present on the scheduled Exhibition days will receive a failing grade for the course, will not receive credit for the course, and subsequently placed on Academic Probation (see LHS Student Handbook). Students who do present on the scheduled Exhibition Days but their presentation does not meet standard will be provided an opportunity to present again and achieve standard. In the interim, the student will receive an “Incomplete” for the class until the student successfully completes the Exhibition requirement. LHS strongly emphasizes that taking the Exhibition class DOES NOT guarantee that the student will meet the standard of proficiency on their oral presentation required for graduation.
